Jaymie's Post

Questions:
1- "Throughout history leaders have forged new paths for others to follow."
What do you think this means? Should the followers be challenged to make their own path?

2- In your opinion, what was the most inspirational/motivational quote from this video? Why?

3- The video says that less than 1% of entrepreneurs come from extremely rich families. Does this surprise you? Why or why not?

4- "A leader is one who knows the way..." Do you believe this quote? Could someone be leader without 'knowing the way?'

5- What is the biggest message you got from this video?

    1. 1. I think this means that through out the decades there has been new types of leadership to add to the old ones. I think this means that there are leaders who make an impact on the future toget others to follow. To make a path for the new generations to follow themand look upto them.
      2. "Mangement is doing things right,Leadership is doing the right things" i found this motivational because it shows that even with mangement, organization, money, etc. that i can be a good leader just because of being myself. It opens my eyes more to what leadership actually is.
      3. I thought it would be more than 1 %so it did suprise me. But in a way it doesn't suprise me because most extrenmely rich familes don't need or might not ecven care enough to start a movement or become a leader becvause most of them have neough money to support themselves and they dion't need to. I see that by saying this is a sterotype of the rich families out there but thats just how i'dseeit.
      4. Yes,I believe that this is a quote. A leader can be a leader without knowing. I believe this because most people don't even know they are leaders. They're just happy and smile and are friendly and to some they can be considered a leader.
5.The biggest message that I got was that even if you aren't the smartest, or richest you can still be a leader even if you don't think you can. And that you might be a leader already without even being aware of it. It shows me that some of the biggest leaders out there had to start somewhere, and thattheir some where started off small and grew

  2. 1. The first quotation is pretty much self-explanatory. With regards to the second question, yes, I believe that followers should be challenged to make their own path. Doing so encourages individuality, critical thought, and the potential for innovation. It prevents people from simply being mindless followers who are incapable of thinking for themselves. As well, it created the potential for more innovative ideas and inventions that could fundamentally change the world for better or for worse.

    2. The most inspirational quotation from this video is: "A leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." To me, this quotation is inherently true about most leaders throughout history. They will know how to do something, they will apply their knowledge, and they will lead others in whatever it is they are pursuing as their prime goal. Such leaders could include President F.D. Roosevelt, who led his country through a devastating economic depression and one world war, despite all odds. He had the knowledge since he had served many years in public office; he was able to apply his knowledge when exercising his prerogatives and responsibilities as president; and he led hist people through some of the darkest periods of their nation's history.

    3. No, this does not surprise me. Generally, some of the greatest innovators throughout history have come from unconventional, non-wealthy,backgrounds. Because of this, they lack conventional thinking and are more likely to come up with radical ideas that can fundamentally change society, since they are not constrained in terms of their thought.

    4. I generally believe this quotation, but it is not necessarily always the case. There are plenty examples throughout history of leaders who were in a desperate state of affairs and lacked the knowledge of what to do. However, in spite of all odds, they made it through the storm and led their followers to victory as solutions came about, unexpectedly. One such example would Winston Churchill during the early part of World War Two. Though his nation and its allies initially did poorly in the early part, they succeeded greatly in the latter half of the war because of unforeseen events that occurred. There were the introduction of Russia and the United States into the war. These two events greatly changed the coarse of the war effort and ultimately led to the victory of the allies.

    5. In my opinion, the general message in this video is that anyone is capable of being a leader, regardless of their background or qualification. As well, anyone is capable of leader, regardless of obstacles that may come in their way. They will simply learn and fight on in their pursuits.

  3. "Throughout history leaders have forged new paths for others to follow."
means that some people have created new paths for the may who dont to follow.
the most inspiring quote was the firstone which said "some say leaders are born others say their molded" because it is a question everyone asks and really no one know i think its both but that just may opinion.
the 1% statistic doesnt really phase me because if you think about it the rich people would already have a busness or something else that is giving them money from parents or grand parents.
i dont beilve that is a completely true quote because yes it is good that the leader knows the way but if they know the way "all the time" then their not open to others suggestions which is another important leader quality.
That anyone can be a leader because they come in all different forms.

  4. I think "Throughout history leaders have forged new paths for others to follow" means that leaders have given people the opportunities to try new things outside of their comfort zones. Followers should be challenged to make their own paths, but at the same time they are followers for the reason that they are either too afraid to make their own path and be a leader or are more comfortable in their 'follower' spot. The most inspirational quote was by Steve Jobs " Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." I think this was inspirational because it is very true and holds a good point. I am not surprised that only 1% of entrepreneurs come from welathy families. I think that the greatest successors come from their own success, they dont have it pre set up for them just because they grew up in a wealthy family. I think a leader does have to 'know the way'. They wouldnt be a very effective leader if they didnt have a vision or something that they were aiming for. The biggest message that i got from this video was that anybody can be a leader, despite age, gender, the places you come from, or the places you want to go.

  5. There are times to lead and there are times to follow. If you feel there is unjustice then you should take a stand and do what you think is right. If there is someone leading the right way and doing the right thing. Follow then and support them.
"Management is doing things right, Leadership is doing the right things" Is a quote that i like the most because leadership is looked at differently for most ways and can be twisted to the point where its not even leadership. The issue with management is that your not leading you followers but more putting them into position that will help the cause.
It doesn't really surprise me because where your from makes no difference to the kind of person you are , it doesn't change the ability to motivate people either. It would surprise me more if majority of leaders did come from rich families , because of the fact that they don't have the hustle or grind to want to motivate to a better position in life. Being rich everything you have was handed to you on a silver platter.
I do not believe the quote. Many leaders have run into a situation blindly but still have the ability to navigate there way through the hardships. You can lead without knowing where you are going, simply just knowing that what you are doing is the right thing and you and your followers believe follow you too. No one knows the future.
The message i got was all leaders are born differently, all with there own personality and style. No two leaders are the same and they stand up for what they believe in until they die

  6. 1. The first question is simple, leaders carve a path for others to follow, thwy will follow this path until a time when the MIGHT feel ready to make there own where others will follow.
    2. In my eyes the most inspiring quote is one of the first "leaders are molded" i find this quote very accurate, although it is a simple quote it carries a lot of weight. Leaders are made from past experiences and what they learned or how they were raised. If leaders were born either all of us would be one or none of us would be, leaders are made from how they were raised or what they have done, every single leader has a back ground, something that inspired them to change and lead.

    3. No this does not surprise me, if all entrepreneurs were born wealthy then they would not have the drive to do better. Entrepreneurs are people willing to risk what little they have for something better, if you already have it then you don't have the drive to go the extra mile.

    4. I believe that quote is false, a leader is someone who is willing to find the way, already knowing the way is following some one elses path but if you are going to make your own that makes you a leader.

    5. The biggest message i got from this video is that being a leader is not easy and often can result in failure but learning from that and trying again makes a leader.

  7. 1. I think this means that leaders are the people who can make the hardest decisions to open up more opportunities for others.
    2. "To leaders, challenges aren't roadblocks. They are opportunities." This is a motivational quote because it tells people to never look at a challenge as impossible, but to see it as a chance to improve yourself.
    3. This does not surprise me because if you come from an extremely rich family, chances are you'll be going to some expensive school and living your wildest dreams, but entrepreneurship is a difficult profession it definitely is not for everyone.
    4. A leader can "know the way", but a true leader doesn't need to know where they are going. A true leader goes by their gut and makes decisions objectively, based on what is right, not by where they are supposed to be going.
    5. The biggest message I got from this video was that leaders come in all shapes and sizes, and there are many traits that a good leader must posses.

  8. This quote means that history leaders have created pathways for others to follow with and continue to lead. Followers should not always have to be challeneged to make their own paths because if they do, they are now leaders. In Dannie's post the video states that if everyone is a leader, then it wont get you anywhere because you need people to follow. The quote I found most inspiring is 'Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things" because it is very true. If you are told to do something its not always the right thing, but you think you need to do it right. This statement 'less than 1% of entrepreneurs come from extremly rich families' does suprise me. It suprises me because you normally need a lot of money to start your own business. I don't believe the quote 'A leader knows the way...' because sometimes you dont always need to know where youre going or what you need to do because you learn that on the way. The biggest message I got from this video is that you don't need to be a 'big shot' with a lot of money to be a leader, and that you can be a leader however you want to be.

  9. 1. Yes, leaders shouldhave to forge their own paths because if you are taking other ideas your not a leader but a follower. Every leader ever, thought of their own ideas, plans, and actions they will take out.

    2. John C. Quincy's quote was my favorite. It ties in with my first answer. If you use someone elses ideas to make better, you're a follower and not a leader, you need to pave your own roads and go your own way.

    3. It does surprise me because great leaders are rich and could have kids who could be come leaders because they grow up in a family of leaders, but again, that would influence their choices.

    4. I would think that a leader would know what direction they want to go before they agree to become a leader. Some leaders haven't, like Mark Zuckerberg for example. He ahd no idea which way he wanted facebook to be he just new he had an amazing idea and he knew he had the brains to make it better and to manipulate other people like his bestfriend and the Winklevoss twins in order to make his idea better.

    5. The biggest message to me was that you have to make your own paths to become a leader.
