How do stereotypes affect leadership?

What part in the video sticks out most for you?

Why are these two almost perfect for doing this poem?

What leaders now, or in the past, have gone against the stereotypes of the time?

Have you had to overcome a stereotype to be a leader (go against what you're told to do)

  1. Stereotypes affect leadership because people are judged everyday on how the look, act, and talk. First impressions are huge in the buisiness world and the way you look will affect what the audience's first impression will be. The part of the video that sticks out to me the most is the begginning where they are both talking and saying stereotypes about eachother to the same spoken word poem. This made me think about how stereotyping can make a huge impact. These two are perfect for the poem because visually, they are exact opposites. The poets show unique ethnicity, accents, voice pitch, and appearences, to create a very intriguing comparison. A leader that have gone against stereotypes in the past are Coach Carter; who proved that his African-American male basketball players can go to college and recieve education. Another leader that has gone against stereotypes is Lucreita Mott who fought for womans rights in nineteenth and early twentyieth centuries. I once had to overcome a stereotype when my teachers in grade 9 thought that I was just a jock and didn't care about school, I had to prove them wrong by working hard in class.
