Tristan's Post

1.       Rocky describes the world as a very cruel and heartless place. Do you believe this? Do you believe that the world is generally bad or generally good? Explain yourself.
2.       Rocky says that cowards blame others on their failures. Do you believe that someone who blames others can be a leader or must they take the responsibility? Explain yourself.
3.       He states “if you know what your worth, then go get what your worth”. When he said that did you take it figuratively meaning that someone is only worth so much or did you take it metaphorically meaning that you are worth as much as you think you are? Why?
4.       For someone to be a leader must the person be able too “take the hits” as Rocky said? Why?

  1. The world is a very complex place, it can be both good and bad; I believe to truly enjoy yourself and the world you have to find the good in the bad when times are cruel and heartless. However, I don't think the world is generally good or generally bad; its not a general understanding, the world is how you percieve it to be; if youre miserable and seek out the bad in everything than yes, the world is going to be gernally bad. However, if you are someone that looks for the positives, the good in the bad and the things that are worth living for in life than the world will seem to be generally good.

Quality leaders can see the flaws and faults within themselves to make themselves better leaders; a good leader wouldn't blame the faults on others; they would take responsibility. There is no such thing as being perfect and good leadership skills will understand and recognize that.

I believe he means it metephorically; you are only worth as much as you believe you are. If you believe yourself to be worth high standards and high expectations, then go out and get yourself what you are worth. If you are worth the fancy lobster and wine as apposed to bread and water then go get it.

To be a good leader you have to be able to take critics; they will only better your leadership skills and help you advance. If you can't come to terms with problems, faults and flaws then you should rethink a leadership position. Understanding and recognizing these things about yourself as a leader or life you will only advance and get better.

  2. 1: I believe that the world is what you make it out to be. If you dont make anything of the life you live, or find things to live for, than to you the world will be heartless, it wont seem like a place you want to be in, but like Rocky says, if you take the hits and make something for yourself, youll get to where youre supposed to be, which in turn makes your world into something good.
2: I think that the whole part of being a leader is stepping up and taking responsibility for times when you succeed, and times when you dont. If you cant accept that you've failed at something, and take that and learn from it and then the next time make sure that you dont fail at that something, than i dont think you have the priorities of a true leader in your mind set.
3:I took that metaphorically. Its like, if youre good at a sport, youre going to play that sport at the highest level that you can play, because that is exactly what youre capable of. I beleive thats the same as success in your life. If you think youre worth a lot, than you will do everything you can to make sure you get the most out of yourself.
4: I think a leader has to be able to "take the hits" because thats how you learn. You take the hits, you learn from it, you do it better next time.

  3. 1. I feel that the world can either be a good place or bad place, it's how you react to life's situations and your postivity level to determine what kind of place it will be.

    2. I think that cowards can not be leaders. Leaders must be strong and accept thier failures to move past them and do greater things.

    3. I took it both ways. Figuratively- If you know you can do better and strive for more then go out and get it and your accoplishments will be part of your personal worth. Metaphorically- If you think that you are worthless then you are going to feel worthless. But if you feel like you are better and can do better then you feel like you are worth more and will feel better about yourself.

    4. Yes to be a leader you will face obsticles and problems that will push you down. But to be a good leader you have to push past those obsticles to get the job done.

  4. The world IS cruel. There's bullies, there's wars, there's leaders who abuse their power, murders, drunk drivers, etc. But the world is what you make it, if you learn to accept the choices other people make and accept that you cant change it on your own, you can live a life free of pain.

To be a leader, you have to take responsibility for your actions, good or bad. If you blame failures on others you ARE a coward and putting that in perspective, you don't know how to lead, all you know is how to delegate your responsibilities to others.

It kind of goes both ways. You can achieve whatever you set your mind to (within reality) and sometimes you can only achieve what you're actually worth. For an example, as a kid, you can achieve literally anything you want as long as you set your mind to it. But as you get older, you may not have taken the necessary steps to get to where you wanted as a kid so you look at alternatives to do what you're actually capable of achieving.

Yes, you need to be able to roll with the punches. It pertains to basically anything in life. As a leader, or just an employee, or unemployed even. As a leader you have to take the criticism that is given to you and get through it and you can't run away from your responsibilities, if you cower, if you allow those to break you down, you don't have what it takes to be a leader. As an employee, as hard as the job you are given may be, you need to power through it because as long as you work as hard as you can, there is no way you can lose. Being unemployed is tough, whether it be schooling problems, where you grew up, being laid off, it doesn't matter. You see it all the time. What matters is if you're able to get through that and take the necessary steps you need to get what you're after, again, there is no way you can lose.

  5. 1. Yes, I agree with Stalone on this statement. The world is a cruel and heartless place, full of despair and misery. However, it is not terrible. The simple fact is that when times are tough, one must fight it through with steadfast resolve, regardless of the circumstances. I have had to do that multiple times throughout my life, especially with regards to my academic career. Through these experiences, one build's character and life experience.

    2. Yes, I believe that someone who blames others can be a leader. Often times in life, there are genuine cases where people's livelihoods and reputations are destroyed or damaged as a result of the obstacles put up by other individuals. This does not mean that there are not individuals who simply blame others for their problems since they don't with to take personal responsibility. However, there are genuine cases where people's problems are caused by others and they have every reason to air their grievances. Although, at a certain point, they need to stop blaming others and work past the obstacles in order to be successful.

    3. I took Stalone's statement metaphorically. In my opinion, in life, one is worth just as much as they feel they are worth. It is up to them to determine their goals and get themselves where they need to be. If they lack that drive, they they likely will not get far.

    4. Yes, an individual must be able to take the hits. In summary, my reasoning for this answer is the same as that on the first question, regarding steadfast resolve and one needing to be able to fight on, regardless of the odds.

  6. 1. Yes i agree this world is a pretty cruel place but with that i also believe that we make it that way. I also think that we have the opportunity to change it into a good world if we just try and make it a bit better place a little at a time
    2. No you can't be blaming others when you're a leader the thing is with being a leader you have to be strong you're the head of the group and people usually look to you for answers and help when they need it and if you're blaming other people then what makes them want to come to you if you’re only going to take the good side and possibly dish them the bad side. Another thing is when you’re a leader you usually are overlooking the whole "project" so you're just as much to blame as anyone if not more because you stepped up and decided you wanted to be that leader role
    3. i heard it metaphorically because it's true you have the choice of what you're worth no one else has the right or power to tell you that, but you have to be willing to get it if you want to make yourself with that something and i truly believe that anyone can do anything it just depends on if they try or not.
    4. Yes they do because he's right life doesn’t stop hitting us, it’s kind of life’s way of challenging us to be our best and when life does that you have two options stay down and settle with what you have or get back up and get what you wanted.

  7. I agree that the world is a heartless place and is indeed bad. In order to succeed in many career paths you have to take advantage of others, and be very selfish. Someone who is a leader must always take responsibility because in being a leader you have the power to make change. If something goes wrong it is your responsibility to correct your mistakes and to not blame others. I took the metaphorical meaning, "you"re worth as much as you think you are". If you believe you can make a change that itself is enough motivation to make a change. Yes, a leader must be able to "take the hits" because as a leader, you are confronted with many hardships and difficulties. It's how you get over these hardships and difficulties that define you as a leader.

  8. 1) I think that although the world can easily be percieved as a cruel, and hearltess place it also has the potential to be something magnificant and beautiful. I think that as long as we let these terrible things happen to us and allow them to push us around the world will always seem hopeless, but if you took the initiative to try and make something out of it then you could easily be surprised by the outcomes.
    2) I think that if you want to become a leader you need to own up to your own mistakes and not try to pawn them off onto someone else. Part of being a leader is being honest and respectable and how could you possibly expect people to respect you and your honesty if you're allowing other people to take blame for your actions.
    3) I think that he meant that statement metaphorically and that what he was implying that you can reach the limits that you set for yourself and the goals that you set for yourself. If you believe that you can't accomplish much then guess what? You won't be doing too much, however if you believe that if you work hard enough and geinuinly believe that you can accomplish somthing then you will strive to accomplish that.
4)I think that it's essential for someone to "take the hits" to become a leader, if someone wasn't testing you how well would you know what you're standing for and how much you believe in it? I think that these hits so to speak are testing your loyalty to not only your cause but how strongly you believe in it. Someone who has never been tested on their beliefs wouldn't have had to fight as hard as someone who has to keep theirs.
